What does Medicare pay for?:
- Part A pays for inpatient expenses subject to per day copays with NO annual out of pocket maximum
- Part B pays 80% for doctor expenses with NO out of pocket maximum
- Part D pays for part of your prescription expenses
Two Private insurance options to reduce Medicare out of pocket exposure:
- Medicare Supplement –
- You keep your Original Medicare plans and Medicare Supplement fills the “gaps” in eligible Medicare expenses where Medicare doesn’t pay.
- There are different Medicare Supplement policies that cover different levels of Medicare Part A and B expenses
- Medicare Advantage -
- Private insurance takes over for your government Medicare Part A, Part B and possibly Part D.
- Medicare Advantage will cover at least what Medicare would have paid and may cover more Medical expense as well.
- Is a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan best for you? That is an individual question that is best answered after discussing an individual's specific circumstances
